Ten people were injured in an escalator fire at Kennedy Airport on Wednesday morning, airport officials said. According to Mojo reports, the escalator in Concourse C of Terminal 8 caught fire at around 7:15 am.
There were about 990 passengers in this terminal. These passengers were taken to other places by bus immediately after the escalator fire started at Kennedy Airport. The Fire Department said: “Eight of the injured were taken to the hospital for treatment and hospitalized.”
Eleven US and international airlines, including American Airlines, British Airways, and Japan Airways, use Terminal 8 for their flights. On Wednesday, out of a total of 89 American Airlines flights, only 3 were successfully operated and the rest were canceled due to fire and evacuation of passengers.
The operation of the terminal returned to normal on Wednesday afternoon, and officials announced that the cause of the fire was under investigation.
