The replacement CWM hospital elevators are expected to arrive in the country next month, with engineers from the company currently at the hospital, servicing the damaged elevator to restore its functionality. The Ministry of Health says it is in close contact with its service providers and relevant government agencies to address the elevator issues at the hospital.
The damaged elevator is said to be located in the west wing of CWM and is more than 15 years old. The ministry says the elevator was purchased from OTIS New Zealand and engineers from the company are currently at the hospital. They say OTIS is also contracted to service the replacement CWM hospital elevators installed by the company at the hospital.

The ministry said that Otis specialists announced in 2023 that the hospital’s aging elevators needed to be modernized and replaced with CWM hospital elevators, and with the government’s approved funding allocation, they have since been engaged in the procurement and contractual commitment process to replace all existing and aging elevators at the hospital.
They said hospital elevators are specialized systems and are specifically designed for use in hospitals and are suitable for transporting patients, staff and specialized medical equipment such as patient beds, patient trolleys, wheelchairs, patient monitoring equipment as well as medical devices.
The ministry said they must also comply with infection prevention and control requirements and will only be produced once payment for the purchase is made.
The ministry asks patients, families and caregivers to bear with them as it makes every effort to address the infrastructure needs of all health facilities to improve the delivery of care in the country.
