Selection of architect J. Mayer H’s design for Cheongdoam Tower in Seoul
Renowned architect J. Mayer H won the City of Seoul Urban Design/Architecture Project Competition to design and build the Cheongdoam Tower in Seoul, South Korea. This design was selected from multiple submissions and six shortlisted projects.
Cheongdoam Tower has winding paths through open green spaces with water features. These routes include spaces for cultural events and commercial areas that create public spaces.
Featuring a unique sculptural form, Cheongdam Tower has a green structure that seems to have evolved. The tower acts as a distinctive focal point in the urban landscape.
“Chongdam” means clear water, and the design chosen for this tower has appropriate natural elements and symbols of the natural cycles necessary for the growth and development of culture. This structure combines lines, green terraces and a protective facade depicting water waves. In fact, the construction of Cheongdoam Tower in Seoul creates a living and very natural and beautiful organism in the urban landscape.
Seoul is Korea’s largest metropolis, known for its modern skyscrapers, high-tech subways, and expressions of Korean pop culture.
