The plane was supposed to land at LaGuardia Airport, but was unable to due to foggy conditions. The pilot requested to land in New York. It is believed that this plane flew very close to the Chrysler building and after that, the pilot did not have enough field of vision because of the fog; It deviated from the path and hit the Empire Building.

At 9:40 AM, a B-25 hit the building between the 78th and 80th floors. Three people died on the plane and 11 people died in the building. The fire department managed to extinguish the fire after 40 minutes.

Survivor of an elevator fall from the 75th floor of a building in New York

The interesting story in this heartbreaking accident is the survival of a woman after the fall of the elevator. Betty Lou Oliver was 20 years old at the time and worked as an elevator operator in the building. When the plane hit, the elevator was on the 80th floor. The intensity of this collision was such that he was thrown out of the elevator and suffered burns.

After performing first aid, he was sent to the ground floor with another elevator; But due to cable damage, the elevator fell from the 75th floor. The reason Oliver survived was because the cables stacked at the bottom had reduced the impact when the cabin hit. It took several months for him to fully recover; But he was able to live healthy until now.

Interestingly, this is not the longest elevator fall that people have survived. A few years ago in Chicago, an elevator fell from the 84th floor of a building, which is known as the longest elevator fall without a fatality.
