With the start of the 2024 Olympic Games in Paris, about 10,500 athletes from more than 200 countries along with their coaches and family members came to this city to participate in the competitions. Around 15 million visitors, including 2 million from abroad, are also expected to travel to Paris to watch the Olympic and Paralympic events between July 26 and September 8. With so many tourists, the Eiffel Tower will surely see its busiest days, and this congestion will lead to traffic jams in the tower’s elevators.
Three of the elevators in the Eiffel Tower are for visitors. An electric elevator that is used to transport Jules Verne restaurant customers. Also, two passenger elevators and a 4-ton freight elevator move passengers and equipment between floors.
Based on past data and statistics, the total annual elevator trips are equivalent to two and a half times the worldwide standard. In the Olympic Games, historical sites throughout France are used to hold competitions. For example, the stadium in front of the Eiffel Tower is used to hold beach volleyball games. This increases the number of visits to the Eiffel Tower and other historical places in France.
