Otis won 3 Red Dot design awards. The new technologies of Otis company, including the elevator cabin, were designed to improve the passenger experience. These technologies are equipped with buttons that magnify the floor number. In this way, visually impaired people can easily use the elevator and travel safely.

Otis Smart Cab

The ultra-modern Otis Smart Cab elevator concept represents the vision of Otis engineers to provide advanced technology, speed, comfort and safety for passengers. Its interactive features include a digital elevator assistant that communicates with passengers and a unique display that shares elevator arrivals, passenger capacity and operational status.
The Red Dot Design Award was awarded to a smart elevator cabin developed in China.

Some smart cabin features will be available in Chinese elevators from 2025. “This unique engineering and design award recognizes us as a leader in innovation to the world,” said Sally Lu, president of Otis China. The Otis Smart Cabin, designed by the company’s core team in China, makes the experience of passengers using the elevator more enjoyable. In such a way that the elevator is better aligned with today’s smart world.

Otis excellence in elevator design and safety

In addition, Otis won a Red Dot Design Award for two other innovations. The first innovation is the Eco Drop Big Button, which aims to solve the challenges of the visually impaired elderly. Inspired by the magnified effect of dew on leaves, this design enhances visibility. These buttons have a silicone lens on the elevator button to magnify the numbers.

The second innovation is the Ele Safety ID & Biz Card and the winner of the safety, protection and security category. This innovation is equipped with digital technologies to remind people to follow safety tips such as wearing helmets and belts.

Buttons and safety ID cards are made by Otis engineers in Korea. Ji Hyun-jung, director of Otis Korea Design Center, said, “This award reflects our continuous efforts to develop more accessible elevators, and we always consider safety as the main pillar. We will also continue to create distinctive initiatives that contribute to inclusive mobility for all.”
