According to Cabin News, citing WV News, after years of persistent Harrison County Courthouse elevator replacement issues in West Virginia, the commission has recently considered proposals for their renovation. The ongoing elevator problems have significantly affected the courthouse, forcing employees and visitors to use the freight elevator at times. Some staff and services were also relocated to ensure public access to the first floor.

Chief Judge Christopher McCarthy wrote a letter to the commission last September regarding frequent elevator failures. On March 5, the commission submitted a grant request to the West Virginia Department of Arts, Culture, and History to secure funding for the Harrison County Courthouse elevator replacement. According to expert assessments, the estimated cost for replacing both elevators ranges from $500,000 to $1 million.
