KONE installs four new escalators at London DLR station
According to Rail UK, elevator and escalator manufacturer KONE is set to begin the installation of four new escalators by KONE at the Cutty Sark Docklands Light Railway (DLR) station in southeast London. These energy-efficient escalators will connect all three levels of the station and are scheduled to be installed and operational by next spring.
To minimize passenger disruption, all escalators will be replaced simultaneously. Travelers have been advised to use the nearby Greenwich station during the upgrade. In recent months, the existing escalators have become increasingly unreliable, resulting in numerous complaints from passengers.
Ben Gowler, Head of TfL Operations for DLR, stated: “We know that the Cutty Sark escalators have caused disruption and frustration for our passengers, and we want to thank them for their patience during this time.”
The installation of four new escalators by KONE aims not only to modernize public transport infrastructure in London but also to introduce sustainable, energy-saving technologies. Once completed in spring, the project is expected to significantly enhance the travel experience for DLR passengers at Cutty Sark.
This major upgrade is a testament to KONE’s commitment to innovation and modern solutions in urban mobility. The installation of four new escalators by KONE could serve as a model for other busy city stations worldwide.
