Announcement of the winners of the fourth student competition by Otis
Otis announced the winners of the fourth student competition held by the company. Otis Company held this competition in the Student Challenge with the aim of providing new solutions for people’s transportation in modern cities.
In the fourth annual competition, students came up with innovative solutions aimed at expanding access to green space in urban communities to improve resident well-being with the guidance of Otis volunteer mentors. The first team winners of the 4th student competition were Colina students from Chile.
These winners presented a plan for the development of a sparsely populated area. The second winner was China’s Jiliang University, Hangzhou. China’s Jiliang University has developed a concept for a smart and green elevator. This concept includes visual, tactile, auditory and olfactory elements that are often found in outdoor spaces. This concept brings “virtual” green spaces to those who have limited access to such spaces.
The third winning team was from Greece, which presented a prototype of a smart cane designed to provide sensory feedback to visually impaired people to improve navigation in green spaces. In the end, Taiwan’s Zhongshan Girls’ High School was the fourth winner of this competition.
They designed glasses that pair with a smartphone to alert the user of nearby obstacles while traveling in green spaces. The Global Student Challenge for 2023-24 saw the participation of over 240 students from 15 countries and regions. Every year during this competition, about 750 technicians from Otis company are with the participants as trainers.
